Normally you must first do an orientation dive with Atlantis, so they can assess whether you can dive a little and how much air you consume. But because today is a day trip to Apo Island and we all had dived at Atlantis Puerto Galera, we should note. Apo is an island, or rather an extinct volcano, you can see from our terrace located just south of our resort. We leave here for 8 hours and wet after a half hour sail because the boat is indeed fast, but makes a lot of water while sailing, we make our equipment ready. In the briefing before the dive we are warned of the flow. But my question or just as strong as we flow a few days earlier in the Canyons have experienced guides begin to laugh as much flow as the Canyons there is only few places .....
If we are with our guide Wing Wing and an American lady in the water seems to have gone the first flow is too bad but a little further still pulls a bit on. We fly along the reef between the many fishes. It's a dive, but a bit too much flow for decent shooting. On the boat we get coffee and cakes and after exactly one hour we are on the other side of the island already in the water. Again with a strong current, delicious!
After the second dive we get a packed lunch which we enjoyed in the bay where the office of the Marine Sanctuary is located. On the beach directly gather a dozen women who would have us t-shirts and sarongs to sell. We look at how they show at every boat that comes quickly to grab their belongings exactly where the tourists come ashore again to show their wares. After almost a half hour we pull, warmed by the sun, dressed and we go back into the water. This time the dive site protected from the flow through it in a bay. We swim slowly along the wall with many beautiful nudibranches, eels and sea snakes and have ample opportunity to take pictures. After an hour and 10 minutes we are back at the boat and we embark on the journey back. A great first day of diving from Dumaguete.
After we have rinsed and cleaned up our things we attract to dry swimsuits and entrench ourselves on our terrace with sea view and a hammock
After showering, however, shows that "even warm up in the sun after 2 boat dives" a bad plan. Marije her back, some shades of faded, at least that part where it's not hung, for a nice visible white stripe is clearly visible between her shoulder blades. That will be careful turning in bed all day tomorrow and continue the suit or not in the sun ![]()
On Monday morning we leave at 8.30 am with 2 semi-professional American underwater photographers and an Italian couple for our first dive site that "Cars" hot. In Dumaguete, particularly (black) sand on the bottom with a single natural coral formation. With vehicles and tires in various places in recent decades artificial reefs made. In the sand anyway life's most wondrous creatures, and the slightly larger animals seek shelter in the artificial reefs. The wrecks in 24 to 28 meters deep are completely covered and indeed provide a refuge for many fish, crabs, shrimp-like, etc. We see an orange frogfish not much bigger than a pinhead, but also a larger white version with red and brown spots. These fish are perfect camouflage for the environment in which they live, so it's not so easy to find them, though it seems hardly worth our guide Marco to cost. Besides the frogfish we see robust ghost pipe fish, ornate ghost pipefish, ghost pipefish harlekyn and the very rare winged ghost pipefish, to name but a few names to mention the animals that we find 1 dive.
After the batteries between dives of our cameras, we have changed the water right in front of our resort, called the house reef. Here is a collection of tires on 15 to 20 meters which is also completely overgrown by life in the sea. It is a quiet swim and we have plenty of time to wander the land looking for life. After the dive we quickly showering and pulling on dry clothes and then the always lavish lunch to go. The wind is quite attracted, but that's just too good, otherwise it here well over 30 degrees and been so very warm. A strange idea as little later we read on the internet that extreme cold affects Netherlands. -15 Degrees, as we can here in our shorts and seawater one degree or 28 little in proposals ![]()
After an hour of reading and sleeping in the hammock we get 16 hours ready for our third dive of the day. We go to a site with the illustrious name of San Miguel's tires, so again an artificial reef of tires. Here's more lives than the tires on site where we previously had. Everywhere pipefish and frogfish and are surrounded by cleaner fish cleaning stations where larger fish get rid of parasites. With a full memory card and batteries (and the Italian, who also pops up with us again with a full tank empty
) We come here after 17 hours above. Again a great day diving, only 4 to go this holiday ![]()
We take a nice hot shower and check our mail while the batteries in the charger are for a new day tomorrow!
