Blisters on our feet

After a quiet last morning in Dumaguete where our diving equipment to dry and then pack our bags 1 times we enjoy the excellent cuisine of Atlantis and then begin our journey to Hong Kong. We have plenty of time at the airport in Dumaguete, which consists of a small hall with a few chairs, because there are after all only 4 aircraft per day. At 16.30 we take off and an hour later we were at the airport in Manila. Unfortunately there is no place on the flight to Manila for 20 hours, so we must wait for the flight of 23 hours. And after 5 hours of waiting we get in and just before 1 o'clock in the morning we are in Hong Kong. The bags come quickly and we get to do something about 2 hours by taxi to our hotel: JIA. We have a spacious suite on the 22 th floor, tired and we roll the lovely soft bed.

On Sundays we are down just in time for the do-it-yourself breakfast. In the lobby of the hotel is a kitchen where you can make your own breakfast: croissants, muffins, yogurt, juice and there is a good espresso machine. The weather is fairly good (18 degrees and sunny) and we walk around noon our neighborhood in Causeway Bay. The streets are fairly quiet and we wander through the streets and walk a few stores and small shopping malls. During the afternoon we take the subway (which here is fantastic efficient and clean) to the Peak Tram, which takes us to the lookout point on Hong Kong Island, The Peak brings. We Marije her father's old subway passes he received in 2002 and 2003 often used when he was in Hong Kong. We must apply equally to re-activate, but they do it again. We charge what is on the cards and may then at the Peak Tram line to buy a ticket to skip, because with this Octopus can not only fit in the subway but in this old tram.

On top of the Peak is quite chilly. The view is impressive, the Hong Kongers have a really huge city built on a tiny piece of land and everything will last several storeys into the air. If we come down to the tram we stroll to the Central district: the luxury-mall area. We walk through a few malls with-all-weather walkways to each other are connected to the Star Ferry, the boat to us in a few minutes across to Kowloon brings. From this side you have 20 hours to the best view of the Symphony of Lights: A light show that takes place every night and where 24 (high) buildings on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon to participate. The promenade is packed with tourists who come to see the light show. And beyond the neon lights and lasers, it is also a good geflits of all cameras. After the show we walk to the Intercontinental Hotel in the lobby where we enjoy a beer, wine and canapes take. Such a tiring day in the city after 2 weeks of relative calm on a diving island ;-)

On Monday morning it is raining! Many Hong Kong walks with an umbrella. And because Hong Kongers bit smaller than we are, we must be careful on the street that they are literally our eyes protrude with their umbrellas. We take the subway to Mongkok where we look to the mall with the electronics. But we are here for 11 hours in the morning clearly too early: Most shops are closed and the mall (or actually a 6-storey high indoor market) is empty. The rain we have to stabbing a Western mall where we first have a good cup of coffee. We're going to eat tonight in a fancy restaurant, Aqua, and we have our clothes still here so we're going to adapt to find a shirt for Juriaan. The fashion here is generally modern but have a little Asian, so with the necessary glitter and sewed cartoon characters such as Hello Kitty. Around 13 hours it starts to dry and we do a new attempt at elelctronica-mall. But we come quickly to the conclusion that it's not that much cheaper in Hong Kong than in the Netherlands, usually saves less than 10% in price, and as we firm will have to pay for our (dive) on baggage can hardly out. So we take the subway without doing things a little further north to the Festival Walk, a shopping mall that Feng Sui is completely furnished. The mall is really beautiful and there is a plethora of high fashion shops and expensive labels. We have lunch at a cute Italian restaurant where dozens of chandeliers hanging and then stroll to the next story in the very modern mall.

Around 17 hours we take the subway back to our hotel to the damage to our feet and what nicer look to attract for our dinner at Aqua. We end up in the middle of rush hour in the subway and it is surprising how many people fit in a subway in Hong Kong. Stacked on top of underground we travel to Hong Kong Island where our hotel is. Also noteworthy is that the premises incredibly slowly. It's already crowded underground stairs and then we continued on the heels of our predecessors as they shuffle more than walk away and the middle of a stream of people do not hesitate to take a calm and quiet to stand around watching. Or sometimes even to their game on their mobile phones to play. Everywhere you look you see in the subway and street Hong Kongers with their mobile phone in their hand a game of Solitaire, Snake or something similar games.

We have a table at 19.30 in Aqua, on the 29 th floor of the building One Peking Road. We have a table by the window and the view of the Symphony of Lights, at this point so that we again can see, even better than the night before on the boulevard. The restaurant is fully booked even on Monday night and the food, Italian and Japanese is very good! If we are around 23 hours in our hotel, we can barely hobble walk from the blisters on our feet. Both are we relieved when we take off our shoes and our legs can do. We still pierce anything by blisters, because tomorrow we have a whole day to walk through Hong Kong, and then roll our bed.

Tuesday morning (the sun shines!) After breakfast we pack our bags. The hotel is fully booked and we can not get late check out so we should leave the room at 12 o'clock. We leave our belongings in the hotel and then go into the city. We fly around midnight, so somewhere after dinner we have our bags and get to the airport. But now even the escalator to the Mid Levels, to the IMAX movie theater and probably also still a bit more shopping. And then we have more than 24 hours in the cold weather Netherlands ;-)
