22 dives and 12 holes behind

On Monday we start with 8 Dutch (we did not even know there were so many on the island, until now we had mostly Germans, Brits and Russians view), 2 Germans and 2 British on the morning boat for 2 dives. Darren Our guide takes us to where we hoped Fushivaru sharks and manta rays also quite possibly be found. The wind has picked up and the island staff hopes that now the flow reverses, and that is needed to Manta's get in the Atoll. When we arrive at the dive site Darren checked the flow, but unfortunately that is not rotated, thus still "incoming" and that is not favorable for mantas. We sail to the other side of the uninhabited islet Fushivaru to another place to go in the water while on the boat and made the requisite jokes are thrown buckets of seawater. It is so warm and the sea that it hardly even cools. If we go into the water flow appears quite strong and not everyone has the underwater to his liking. After 20 minutes we make a sharp turn to swim against the current which is really hard work, to drift toward the underwater island (in a Maldivian Thila called). If we look around us we are already 6 divers who lost their air back to the surface and are gone. We drive a half hour with the flow between the rocks and see large schools of fish seeking protection of the flow and the few sharks that swim the entrance of the channel in search of prey. And if we come up after an hour we are the last to emerge from the water. Those 450 + diving experience provides many benefits to this type of diving: we use less air, are relaxed and know which places under water flow is less that for a moment to breathe.

After the dive, Darren does a debriefing and explains how the current diving works best and the most fun can be made. After an hour to catch my breath and dry we do a second dive on a quiet dive site without flow by most guests found enjoyable than the first dive, but not by us ...... After lunch we go this time an hour flat on our beach bed under our palm tree because that is where we are completely leak bitten by sand fleas, but we quickly go back into the water on the house reef. It is slightly earlier in the afternoon than we normally our third dive and it seems that the house reef also looks different now that the sun is still high. There is still much more life than the other times: an octopus, 6 large stingrays on the sand seem to play a kind of tag and all residents of the wreck swim outside the wreck. A TOP dive! We eat in the evening for the second time in the Asian restaurant with sushi, sahsimi, surimi, etc. Delicious!

And then our last dive day is Tuesday dawned. We had earlier this week in the dive center asked for a time at the dive site to dive Kuredu Express, just around the corner of our island where many sharks are regularly but unfortunately they can not plan for us. So we sail again towards Fushivaru it to another part of the outer reef to go see. Here, too, like the previous Fushivaru diving, great flow and we see 3 Grey Reef Sharks for us with the flow direction of the Thila float. On the Thila the coral for Maldivian concepts in good health and we enjoy the colors and the abundance of fish. The second dive we do on a Giri (the local name for a shallow underwater islands just off the coast of Kuredu. It's like lunch time underwater because it is firmly driven by the larger fish such as Jack, the little fish. And After this dive is for us lunchtime ;-)

In the afternoon we take a last farewell to the house reef dive. A relaxed last dive but without rays and octopus this time. We wash our bags and hang them out. Again we have good hiding for the past 8 days, although it is unfortunate that we here in May that mantas are often but not now, not seen. And the number of sharks is limited to 9 ..... We still hang long at the pool where we in the water to the salt water to flush out our pores and talk with an English couple that comes here for years. We have dinner at Franco's, the Italian on the island and walk around 22:30 we went to the end of the pier where the espresso bar is. At the bar are some big bright lights on the water-oriented and there are some guests to the water to watch. If we are on the verge to also look we see a baby less than a meter wide manta is feeding on the plankton that the light is coming. The Manta swim round and makes somersaults just below the surface so you can regularly see his white belly. Still a Manta seen ;-)

Wednesday morning we sleep until 9 am, and then go enjoy a leisurely breakfast, unlike the rest of our stay we were always quick breakfast at our on time to pack before diving. After breakfast we walk to the other side of the island, where we have not been there and just look at the golf course (6 hole par-3). We go to the end of the afternoon for a walk when the sun is somewhat lower, because even at 11 o'clock in the morning it is already boiling hot! We get some stamps for a moment in our logbook at the dive school and around 11.30 am we get our beach towels and we plop down at the pool. The beds in the sparse shade, now that the sun actually right above us, are already occupied, so we throw our stuff on a bed in the sun itself immediately jump into the water. Unfortunately, the water does not cool off much, but it is in the water much more pleasant than they are burning sun.

After we have eaten a sandwich at the pool bar engages the air. The pool boy starts, faster than we him the rest of the week have seen to move the cushions of the chairs to pick and clean. In the distance we see a giant storm cloud that every minute is greater and more ominous. If we fall back into the pool are even a few drops of rain but it eventually floats along. A few hours later it starts to drip again, but the sun still shines. This seems a good time to find our belongings together and to go count our stay (which should be here for an afternoon departure) and then Just to walk to the golf course. When we arrive at the golf course is still dropping but we decide a round of 6 holes to walk. The golf course is Madurodam format: 6 hole par 3 and longest hole is 54 meters. We have therefore only a sand wedge and a putter along. As soon as we get soaked but we play fair. And if we are at hole 6 is really dry and the sun comes back on full power, so we walk the circle again but this time in the sun. Then we drink some in the bar of the club and it is 19 hours and really time to shower (and this time not the salt but the chlorine rinse of us) and our (diving) bags to pack. If we at 20.30 at The Beach down, the sea food restaurant, it seems that many people have decided to eat inside (in one of the eating sand) and there are next to us only 4 other guests. We eat delicious dessert but when it starts to rain again. We drink our coffee in the bar and then go to our cottage to wave our wet clothes hung to dry to save the rain.

Despite these few drops, and earlier this week during the day even a little rain and a violent storm during the night, it's really been beautiful weather, and hot. Let's hope that the seaplanes in this weather and the high waves at sea could rise tomorrow .... ;-)
