Already halfway Alor

The flow of the first dive of the day was a predictive factor for dives that would follow ....

IMG_0546__Small_.JPG After the first night in Alor we are having breakfast at 7 am expected. Nea, the wife of Gilles, delicious bread has been baked and fried eggs, despite the early hour, so a great start to the day. We are at 8.15 pm in a rickety canoe by 2 staff of Alor to the speedboat is paddled and then we leave for the first dive site of the day. If we in the water appears to flow again firmly. The French couple, Gilles Guillaume and guide remain least half an hour swimming bravely against the tide, we'll stop after fifteen minutes struggling to turn around and seen and let us enjoy driving with the flow on a beautiful slope. If after about an hour, all weather miraculously close together, come up, we get a sermon by Gilles. At Alor you must swim against the tide, our fins are not strong enough and the other Frenchman will go the extra mile by saying that the most beautiful diving against the current, which is a nonsense.

Afternoon trying Juriaan at the insistence of Gilles yet another pair of fins, but the good news is that at the dive site of the afternoon, almost no current. It is a real muck-dive with black volcanic sand and marvelous beasts that often crawl across the bottom instead of swimming, a bit like diving in Lembeh. Great for quiet shooting and a long dive. After the second dive was 16.30 and we take a shower and sit nice to read something with our own music in the background. If we associated with the ipod mini stereo had not taken it was very quiet here been ;-) At 19 hours it is dinner time and then it appears again that Gilles more of diving and nature lovers than people who dive resort visits. He is silent even in French, while 3 out of 5 guests are French. For 20 hours the French couple to their hut and Gilles, and their daughter Nea Mali disappear. It is deafening in the quiet resort. If we later, along with Giullaume, there will also start immediately any of the staff that makes the lights in the restaurant and the resort is pitch black! Well we at the last moment a flashlight in our bags have done ....

Diving Holidays from generally excel in regularity and so also here. Also on Thursday, the alarm at 6.30 am and we're just after 7 pm to 8.15 am for breakfast and back in the rickety canoe. The morning dive again in a place with strong currents. But this time, the rest after one quarter against the current stairs and seen it for another 3 minutes we drift along a wall and slope, which is at least as beautiful as the wall where we had to fight against the current. IMG_0686__Small_.JPG After the morning dive, we returned around 11 pm and we go on the porch of our cabin down by the wind where it reasonable to hold, for more, especially from the wind, it's here again real trop se of temperature!

The afternoon dive Marije goes for something different than planned. If we enter the water, there are large waves and turns the flow is still to be increased slightly. Marije will be the first in the water, and moves to a line along the side of the boat forwards, against the flow in and through the waves. In front, is the boat to an anchor and anchor through the body, we will descend. It is, however, still a few meters swimming on the surface of the line to the anchor line. Halfway few meters there is a large wave lifted the boat, and as the wave over the boat lands on top Marijes head. Result: stars and black spots before the eyes that is. Marije wrestles his way back to the stairs at the back of the boat and break the dive, which is actually hardly had started off. A big bump on top of her head and pounding headaches are the result. Juriaan and French (4 pieces, including the guide Gilles) set forth the dive. After half an hour they are back. Under water it was a washing machine: the flow came from all sides and at times the bubbles not disappeared upwards, as is normal, but down if there was a strong down current. Exhausted and completely empty bottles we have 3 quarters after we went into the water again on the way.

For Friday, the program is slightly different: we will make 2 dives in the morning and stay on the boat in between. We leave promptly at 8 am and sail to the south. We have warned that the water on the other side of the narrow channel between the two islands by something can be colder. The warning appears justified: not 28 degrees but only 21. And if you long time in the water, diving in what is obviously the case, you feel the difference though. The diving is relatively relaxed with relatively little flow. That is, compared to what we are accustomed to now. At times it is still very hard against the current warming without you feeling much progress, but that's still only a few minutes and that drops the flow path or what you can hide in an alcove in the wall. After an hour we come up quite numb. It also takes at least half an hour in the blazing tropical sun, until we get somewhat of a normal body temperature. But then the party almost immediately: we will get ready for the second dive, a few hundred meters away on the other coast of the island where the aforementioned channel passing by. We fall into the water and cheering on the surface that the cold is not too bad. About 2 minutes later we all regret this optimism: the water is at 4 meters depth only 15 (!) Degrees. The cold cuts in our faces again and pulls the flow considerably. The good news is that you move a lot of hot, because we have to swim hard .....

IMG_0580__Small_.JPG The dive site is also beautiful, a land covered with large rocks and soil and rocks grow thousands of anemones (those corals where Nemo lives with) and therefore there are endless Nemo's. After 3 minutes we hardly have photos taken, before our hands were soon too cold and the currents too strong again, but we are happy that we get out of the water allowed to warm ;-)
