Early Monday morning we vanauit Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan consequences. At the airport there was a bus waiting for us and a boat was in port. With mandatory life jacket was to sail to an hour and fifteen minutes we were Lankayan Island. A green harvest with a gold rim (the state fine beaches around the island) in the Sulu Sea. We've got cabin 16, the last in line ... We were also at Magic Island (in house 1) and Cabilao (in hut Pluto) even in the most distant houses from the restaurant.
During the introductory through divemaster Mike was not a word about the Whale Sharks, while according to the site of the resort is the heart of the Whale Shark season is. A glance at the guestbook in the restaurant is also teaches that no one talks about whale sharks ;-(
The food is buffet style with a tight schedule:
7-8 hours = Breakfast
10-11 hours = snack
= 13-14 o'clock lunch
= 19-20 o'clock dinner
And in between you do 3 dives, so we are busy ![]()
Weather Lankayan is what varies. We had clear blue sky, a huge downpour and storm clouds. So in everything, but daytime is always warmer than 30 degrees and it does not cool off more than one degree or 23 at night.
The seawater is, we think, a degree or 26 because according to our dive guide, the view from water to 26 degrees are generally somewhat worse (5 up to 15 or maybe once 20 meters), and visibility is not good! It seems a bit better as the seawater is warmer but day 30 and at night 23 degrees, you can calculate that it will heat up very quickly at this time ....
For our house, which stands on the beach, baby blacktip reef sharks swimming around. Very nice to see. Until Juriaan subtly remarked that they sit in the shallow water to be safe for large sharks that eat them differently but also to rejoice in the baby turtles that one of these days will come again. That is quite shocking again, they look so cute that baby sharks ....
Our island is not too far from Philippine waters and is heavily protected. There is security personnel that a few rounds a day, there is police yesterday and there was even a military exercise on this tiny island (where you at low tide walk around a quarter). When the soldiers this afternoon with their 2 green army fines left, they waved at us and moreover even made a picture of how we sat in a recliner at the end of the jetty (on the helicopter platform
).
The diving is some "murky" but fun, especially for the small stuff. Because the Internet is via satellite, we will not upload photos so that lasts until mid-May when we are in Kuala Lumpur, but there are some pretty pictures in between.
Is striking all over the naming of the dive sites. Magic Island at a place called Fish Feeding but if you're not feeding the fish, and in Dolphin House Saturday (obviously) no dolphins. On Cabilao there was no shark can be seen at Shark Point. And the trend is continued here: Froggies at Fort were no Frogfish and we have been advised not to go to Ray City, there will be no rays down. There is no place here that Whale Shark dive Avenue hot, so we have hope that in the next 6 days of diving will find another, but the risk seems very small when we talk with the staff about.
More updates later, we do have a drink and see if there are babyturtles crawl out of their eggs tonight and then tomorrow is another busy day ![]()
